Wayne LeRoy Elliott, 55, of John Day, died Nov. 20, 2009. A memorial service was held Nov. 28, 2009, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in John Day.
Mr. Elliott was born April 1, 1954, in Lakeview to Dean and Betty June (Sanders) Elliott. He graduated from Grant Union High School in 1972. He married Linda Turner and they had two sons, Billy Joe and Dustin. They lived in Burns, and he managed the theaters there. He and Linda also managed the Grizzly Bear Pizza Parlor in John Day.
He then went to work as a logger. He worked at Prairie Wood Products as a millwright; at Vestas Wind Farms, and he drove a truck for Jerry Sheets. He also owned the Old Timers Cafe in John Day, and ran the Bridge Creek Logging Company in Paradise, Calif.
On June 16, 2006, he married Nancy Wells in Reno, Nev.
His hobbies included hunting, bull riding, the women and youth hunting program, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was the Eastern Oregon director of the Oregon Hunters Association, and spent a lot of time on OHA projects.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Wells-Elliott of John Day; sons, Bill (Stephanie) Elliott of Prineville, Dustin (Cynthia) Elliott of North Platte, Neb., and Bruce (Stacie) Wells of Roberts, Mont.; daughter, Paula (Franklin) Caldwell of Bend; brother, Rick (Kathie) Elliott of Lakeview; sister, Karen (Marty) Schulz of Philomath; parents, Dean and Betty June Elliott of John Day; five grandchildren, Sam, Caitlyn, Ethan and Emma Elliott, and Cameron Caldwell.
