Obituaries: Edna May Sheets

Edna May Sheets, 71, of Prairie City, died at her home on July 17, 2009. A funeral service was held July 18 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in John Day. Interment was at Canyon City Cemetery.

Mrs. Sheets was born Oct. 25, 1937 in Condon to James and Tina (Keeney) Sharp. She graduated from Grant Union High School in 1955.

On April 28, 1956, she married Jerry Sheets in Pendleton. She was employed as a school bus driver for 29 years, retiring in 2003.

She enjoyed cross-stitching and reading. She also loved Grant County. Her contribution to community and society was that she was honest and true to herself and those around her. She loved her family and friends and did not know a stranger.

A self-appointed ambassador for the Kam Wah Chung Museum in John Day, she was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed genealogy and helped others learn their lineage. A highlight for her were trips she took with friends Colleen Hill and Lara Glass to Salt Lake City to work on their genealogy.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Sheets, of Prairie City; sons, Jim (Kathy) Sheets of Glendale, Ariz., and Michael (Jill) Sheets of Ogden, Utah; daughter, Tina (Shaun) Beaton of Dallas, Ore.; sister, Mary Jane Allen of John Day; and 11 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, James Edward.
