JOHN DAY – People can get rid of their old, unwanted cell phones and help out Grant Union High School.

Most Popular

The school is collecting used and unwanted cell phones in order to raise money for the “grad-nite” party for the graduating seniors of 2008.  They are asking for the public to help by donating unneeded cell phones, which can be dropped off at any of the following locations: John Day Office Supply, Radio Shack or Figaro’s Pizza.

Organizers note that many families in America have at least one or two old cell phones lying around their homes, maybe in a drawer or closet, just collecting dust.  Some may be unaware that these very cell phones can be put to use by organizations that use them for fund-raising.

The donated cell phones are sent to Pace Butler Corporation of Edmond, Okla., a leader in the cell phone recycling industry. The company pays for each shipment of cell phones and recycles the phones in a responsible manner. None of the phones end up in a landfill, where they would put toxins into the environment. Some phones are recycled to give to individuals who need emergency 9-1-1 service, such as victims of domestic violence and senior citizens.

By donating cell phones, the public not only helps the graduating seniors of Grant Union High School, they also help the environment, while at the same time getting rid of unneeded clutter in their homes.
