Doris Evelyn Dorsey

Doris Evelyn Dorsey, 83, of John Day, died Oct. 2. A private memorial will be announced later.

Mrs. Dorsey was born May 24, 1928, in Beach Grove, Indiana, to Ernest and Mary (Wilson) Grizzle. She graduated from Beach Grove High School in 1948.

On Dec. 26, 1957, she married Michael Denis Dorsey in Indianapolis.

She worked as the secretary at West Linn School for 27 years. Her hobbies included knitting, sewing, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was the first woman to receive the Melvin Jones Fellow International Award for humanitarian services, and was past president of both the Oregon Secretaries Association and the West Linn Lionesses.

Survivors include daughters, Kathleen Wolf of Canyon City, Donna Drake of Portland, Janice Holfeld of Belgrade, Mont., and Patricia LeRoy of Seattle; and 10 grandchildren, Michaela and Charlie Wolf, Brittany and Brandon Froom, Jennifer Gilman, Warrik and Kirk Holfeld, Michael LeRoy, and Anthony and Kendreonna Drake.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Michael D. Dorsey II and Buddy Warner; a sister, Dorthy Johnson; and a brother, Bud Grizzle.
