PRAIRIE CITY Welcome to the new year! To start things off right, Georgeanne brought the new senior program director, Veanne Weddle, to dinner to introduce her. Shes not new to Grant County, so you may already know her from some of her previous jobs in the area.

I think I overheard Georgeanne say that they were going to visit some places that didnt have snow that they would have to shovel! Thats what dad said when they went to Quartzsite, Ariz., for the winter, Sure it might rain, but at least I dont have to shovel it!

Also coming to dinner was a new member of the Senior Advisory Council, Nancy Nickel.

The Prairie City Food Bank sent over some more potatoes, bags of rice and boxes of tofu to give away. What wasnt taken went to the Senior Center. So, if you have any bright ideas about what to do with tofu, Iva and Helen are willing to listen.

It was good to see the Cardwells back with us. They have had a long siege of being under the weather with various ailments.

We also have new tablecloths to ring in the new year. We respectfully request that other groups that rent the hall be careful and not use sharp objects (knives, rotary and box cutters) on them.

Marvin, Bruce, Buzz and Jim did their thing today. Ruth and Jim delivered five meals and one was picked up. Our servers were the faithful crew of Lou, Louise, Vivianne and Pam. Afterwards, everyone helped clean up: Marvin washed the new tablecloths, Jim swept the floor, Billy and Del moved the chairs, and Bonnie ended up with her hands in the silverware tub. So I asked Georgie Hatfield to help count the money.

The gift certificate donated by Prairie Drug and Hardware went to Gary Jacobson.

The Blue Mountain Nursing Home ladies, Lorna and Kellyn, brought Elmer and Lois Terryberry, Stacey McKinney and James Warthen.

And we all ate, as Wanda said slumgoodeon otherwise known as chicken pot pie, apple salad, rolls, pineapple juice, and for dessert drum roll please pineapple upside-down cake.

After which everybody jumped up and ran. Isnt it amazing that when you retire, you are busier than ever? We went to Redmond so I could get my first cataract surgery on Thursday. Quite an experience. I can truly say that there is no pain and only a little irritation after the anesthetic wears off. They even give you a DVD of the procedure!

Psalm 18:36 You enlarge my steps under me, and my feet have not slipped.
