Unity, thanksgiving

To the Editor:
I’m excited to write on behalf of myself and the John Day Ministerial Association to let you know of a special Thanksgiving Unity Service being planned for 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16.
We have chosen a “neutral site,” at the Canyon City Community Hall – downstairs area. We want to be in a spirit of oneness, and want to see many churches in Grant County participate as we pray together for national and local concerns, and worship the Lord and for the special blessings he has given to us. There will be prayer, praise, special music, a Christian community choir and the preaching of God’s word – we have asked two local pastors to each share a 15-minute message.
As committed Christians, most of us agree that our unity is based on our belief and trust in Christ, not on our social/political views, not on how we dress, not on what we look like and not even on the finer points of doctrine. Remember Jesus’ prayer: “… I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message that all of them may be one … may they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” (John 17:20-21, 23)
When Christian people across denominational lines are united, reach our hands out in fellowship and up in praise – God is glorified and the unsaved are drawn to Christ!
After this service we will have desserts and finger foods for a great time of fellowship. If you have any questions, please call me at 541-575-1895. We will have at least six or seven different congregational leaders to lead in prayer, responsive readings, special music and in preaching. Looking forward to this special time together.
