Obituaries: Alfred Patzer

Alfred Patzer, 91, of John Day, passed away Jan. 26 at Blue Mountain Hospital. No memorial services are planned at this time.

He was born June 5, 1916, in New Leipzig, N.D., joining nine brothers and sisters. He married Ellen Greiner in December 1944 in La Grande. The couple lived in La Grande and Monument, finally settling in John Day.

Mr. Patzer retired from the U.S. Forest Service in 1976. His wife also retired that year, and they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. Several winters were spent in Arizona.

He remained active most of his life. He enjoyed bowling, woodworking, music and electronics. He continued to live on his own until his passing.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, and six of his brothers and sisters.

He is survived by son, Allen Patzer, of Fresno, Calif.; daughter, Lou Ellen Patzer, of John Day; sisters Irene and Anne; and brother, Otto, all of North Dakota.
