CANYON CITY – Voters in Grant County and across Oregon House District 59 decided to keep Republican Rep. John Huffman on the job.

Huffman, appointed to the post a year ago, staved off a challenge from Democrat Mike Ahern in the Nov. 4 general election.

Unofficial returns for the district showed Huffman with 12,540 votes, or 60 percent, to Ahern’s 8,129, or 39 percent.

Grant County voters mirrored the trend, voting 2,330 to 728 to back Huffman.

Huffman is a radio station owner from The Dalles. Ahern is a county commissioner and businessman from Madras.
