IMBLER The Dayville/Monument Tigers basketball postseason came to an end in Imbler.
Although the Tigers put up a tough fight, the No. 3 Imbler Panthers held onto an early 20-point lead, winning the Round 1 state playoff game, 72-48.
Imbler came out and couldnt miss, and jumped out to a healthy lead, said Tiger head coach Jeff Schafer. Theyre a really good team, and its hard to come back on that type of team.
He added that the Tigers shots werent falling, but the team didnt give up.
It was the seniors last game, he said. They played hard and didnt quit, which I was proud of Nobody quit on the team.
The Tigers had a no-quit attitude all season long, with a 19-7 overall record and 6-0 in league.
It was a great season theyre a great group of boys, said Schafer who has had coaching assistance from Greg Edmundson this year.
Schafer noted that wherever the team went, he knew he didnt have to worry about their behavior.
They always did everything with the utmost character, which says a lot about them, he said.
For next year, he said he has no doubt the younger team members will make up for the loss of the four seniors, creating their own roles.
Ill miss them, he said of the seniors. Its neat to see them move on, and it was fun to watch them grow up.
Ill look forward to next year, and well go at it again, he said.
