The John Day/Canyon City Parks and Recreation Youth Volleyball season came to a close last weekend.

The fifth- and sixth-grade tournament was held Nov. 1 and the third and fourth grade tournament was held Oct. 25. Both tournaments were a success and organizers said all of the kids demonstrated sportsmanship and huge improvements in their volleyball skills.

The Pink team – Breann Crider, Chelsie Kodesh, Natalie Stearns, Mariah Moulton, Melissa Erickson and Rose Allen – came out on top in the third- and fourth-grade tournament.

The Navy team – Maja Adams, Hailey Bodewig, Carissa Parker, Mariah Meyerholz and Riley Sherman – finished first in the fifth- and sixth-grade tournament.

Jeff Meyerholz said many people volunteered time that made the season and the tournaments a fun and educational experience for the kids.

The third- and fourth-grade coaches were Kielee Mosley, Kaidee Weaver, Lindsay Madden/Jamie Wright, Melissa Crider and Penny Black. The fifth- and sixth-grade coaches were Hilary Ashmead, Kim Parker/Shanley Day, Danielle Smith/Toya Houpt, Mary Neal, Doug Sharp and Andrea Combs.

The other fifth- and sixth-grade players were: McKayla Moss, Sydney Stearns, Meisha Meyerholz, Emily Mosley and Amber Hensley, on the Green team; Dana Norland, Krista Brown, Taylor Edgar, Auna Waldner and Hannah Updegrave, White team; Riley Sharp, Mariah Boyd, Krista Wise, Alea King and Lucinda Harper, Maroon team; Babe Nash, McKenzie Wilson, Charli Bowden, Carli Gardner and Kaylyn Joslin, Pink team; and Kya Gabbard, Cheyenne Gentis, RJ Bryant, Rheanna Cartner, Jaylynn Bishop, Taylor McCluskey and Meghan Rider, Seneca team.

The other third- and fourth-grade players were: Fallon Weaver, Heather Mosley, Declan Jensen, Makenna Adair, Alyx Larkin, Aimee Brandon and Cheyenne DeFord, on the Gold team; Teagan Wright, Cody Madden, Whitney McClellan, Rebecca Batease, Baylee Harper, Angel Smith and Tessa Busby, Green team; and Megan Camarena, Caleb Madsen, Marlayna Woodbury, Tiffany Bryant, Sarah Ennis, Hayley Fast and Jeannie McCarthy, Orange team.
