JOHN DAY – Dec. 1 is the deadline for farm producers to apply for 2009 coverage of hay and rangeland crops under the Non-Insured Crop Disaster Assistance Program.
“In order to be eligible for disaster assistance programs, like Livestock Forage Disaster Program or the Supplemental Revenue Assistance Program, producers are required to timely purchase, at a minimum, catastrophic coverage for all insurable crops and/or NAP coverage for all non-insurable crops on their entire farm,” said Tom Falvey, executive director of USDA’s Farm Service Agency in Grant County.
NAP was designed to reduce financial losses due to natural disasters that cause catastrophic loss of production or prevent planting of eligible crops.
Coverage costs $250 per crop, but not more than $750 per producer.
