New federal data show home prices in Deschutes County rose nearly 21 percent last year. That increase was the 10th largest among U.S. cities and nearly three times the national average.

Despite that growth, home prices in Bend and Redmond are still, on average, 8.5 percent lower than they where were in 2008.

Among the top ten, Las Vegas is the only other market that’s still in negative territory after five years.

Becky Breeze runs her own real estate company in Bend. She says 2014 is off to a strong start, but she doesn’t expect it to be anything like 2013.

“I don’t see properties flying off the table, again, unless you get some special little place that just everybody wants and maybe it’s just right next to the river, or whatever. But I don’t think that we’re going to have that big of an increase this year because we had so much to recoup from the years prior,” said Breeze.

According to the Federal Housing Finance Agency, eight of last year’s top ten markets were in California. The largest increase was in Modesto, where housing prices rose 28.5 percent.
