Let’s go rodeo

JOHN DAY – A rip-roarin’ good time is coming to the Grant County Fairgrounds rodeo arena this week, as the county fair and rodeo gets under way.

Jackpot Team Roping will start things off on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Rodeo contractor Claude Rickman is bringing the NPRA Rodeo to the arena 7-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Competing will be cowboys and cowgirls from Oregon, Washington and Idaho, including some local participants.

Tucker Wright of Canyon City who competed in steer wrestling at the National High School Finals Rodeo, is on the Saturday night schedule.

Other events include team roping, pole bending, and bronc and bull riding.

The Cowgirl Mafia will entertain the rodeo crowd both evenings.

A younger set will take on the CowKids Rodeo at 10 a.m. Sunday with prizes ranging from Great Montana silver buckles, leather halters and T-shirts.

Admission into the fair and rodeo is $8 a day and $19 for the week.
