The delectable seafood is on its way from the coast – with help from humans – for the 23rd annual Seneca Oyster Feed set for Saturday, May 17, in the town’s community park.

The all-you-can-eat feast is $20 a person, which includes corn, garlic bread, an assortment of salads and drinks. And of course, fresh-from-the-sea oysters prepared two ways: grilled in their shells and served with a choice of sauces, or beer-batter deep-fried.

Lines are usually long, which means not only is the Oyster Feed a popular event, often drawing people from outside Grant County, but that it must be worth the wait.

If oysters aren’t your “thing,” Seneca’s got you covered there, too. The nearby “hamburger shack” will have burgers with homemade relish, hot dogs, fries and drinks for non-oyster lovers.

Both start serving at noon.

And while oysters are the main attraction, there’s plenty more fun to be had during the day-long event.

A 5K race has been added to this year’s schedule, with a start time of 9:30 a.m. The cost is $15 a person for ages 13 and older, and free for those 12 and under. Proceeds benefit Seneca School.

Participants are encouraged to wear Seneca School colors – red, white and black – and to be creative in designing their running “costumes.” All runners will receive a drink koozie at the end of the race.

To sign up for the 5K, call 541-542-0918, or Seneca City Hall, 541-542-2161.

Other outdoor activities during the Oyster Feed include:

• Golf scramble at 8 a.m. – The cost is $10 a person, with four to a team. Contact Chris Gibson, 541-542-2201 to sign up.

• Softball tournament – Call Pete McDaniels at 541-620-4533 for more information.

There’s also a reverse drawing with more than $1,000 in prizes, including a grand prize of $500. The cost is $5 a ticket.
