Rendezvous shows community pride

MT. VERNON Flags were flying and smiles were beaming at Saturdays Cinnabar Mountain Rendezvous Parade, where the theme was Dont Take Freedom for Granted.

Other festive and traditional events took place at the city park as residents tried their hand at ax and frying-pan throwing contests, as well as a buck and bore competition.

A scavenger hunt kept teens busy in the afternoon, and the celebration ended with a dance that night at the community hall.

The celebration is intended to bring the community together, and gets its name from Cinnabar Mountain, on the south side of town.

It shows pride for the community, said the groups treasurer Eva Dougharity.

She said organizers asked for no donations this year; prizes for the competitions were covered by money made at their last event.

We want to give a big thank you to the crew, the people who came, Mayor Sue Horn, the Mt. Vernon city crew who helped get the park ready, and Dale Finley who cooked the meat for the potluck, Dougharity said.

The Rendezvous planners are a close knit group who help with spaghetti feeds and other events when needed, she added.

In September, the group will again hold monthly bingo potluck nights.

More members are welcome. Anyone interested can call Dougharity at 541-620-1377, Wayne Saul at 541-620-2282, or Brad Cates at 541-620-1259.
