Tigers take second at Spray tourney, cruise to 2-0 league start

SPRAY-The Dayville/Monument volleyball team swept Mitchell, 2-0, in the opening round of the Spray Volleyball Tournament Sept. 11 before falling to host Spray, 0-2.

The Tigers took second in the four-team tournament which also included Adrian and Mt. Bachelor Academy.

On Sept. 14, the Tigers opened 1A High Desert League play at Harper with a 3-0 victory over the Hornets, and another 3-0 win against the Huntington Locomotives.

The Tigers handily defeated Harper in the first match, 25-16, 25-17 and 25-17.

Against Huntington, the Tigers completed the sweep with scores of 25-16, 25-5 and 25-20. The highlight of the match was 18 consecutive points off serves by Sahara Derowitsch in the second game.

“She really did an excellent job serving for us,” said Tiger Head Coach Joanne Flower. “We’ve been working on our serving and being more consistent, so that was a positive sign for us.”

The Tigers were scheduled to play Ukiah on Sept. 18 at Monument, and will face Adrian Sept. 21 at 1 p.m. at Dayville High School.

Adrian swept Spray, 3-0, in its conference opener.
