Chills greet 5K ‘Hobble’

CANYON CITY Runners, joggers and walkers two-legged and four-legged braved 18-degree weather for last Saturdays Gobble Hobble 5K.

Casey and Tara Gatz organized the event, which was the second annual Gobble Hobble for Canyon City.

The course this year included a new and steep challenge up Nugget Street to the Canyon Heights subdivision.

Entry fees could be paid with $10 cash or 5 cans of food, and the event brought in over 350 pounds of food to be split between area food banks.

First overall male was Scott McDonald and first overall female was Sheila Comer. First place for 12 and under boys was Finn Schuller and first in 12 and under girls was Kennedy Benge. Each winner received a Gobble Hobble belt buckle.

The Humbolt Elementary School running club led the group of 51 participants in stretches and warm ups before the mornings race.

There were a lot of great volunteers that helped make the event possible, including RoadID.com which donated all the race bibs and over $100 in gift certificates, Casey said.
