Heres the schedule of holiday events on tap throughout Grant County:
Thursday, Nov. 28
Free community Thanksgiving dinner
1-4 p.m., John Day Elks Lodge
A free holiday meal with all the fixings will be offered. People may bring a dessert or side dish to share, as well as board games to enjoy afterward. The bar will not be open. Football games will be playing on the big screen TVs. Home deliveries will be available for homebound folks. People are needed to help with the meal and with deliveries. Free community Thanksgiving dinner
1 p.m., Teen Center, Prairie City
All are welcome to a free, traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings. For more information, or to arrange for a ride, call Prairie Baptist Church at 541-820-3696.

Black Friday bazaar
7 a.m.-2 p.m., Outpost Restaurant, John Day
Several vendors will be selling wares in the restaurants meeting rooms. Shoppers can enter to win a gift basket of goodies.

20th annual Carrie Young Memorial silent auction, dinner
6 p.m., John Day Elks Lodge

Festival of Trees
9 a.m.-3 p.m., Sale Barn, Grant County Fairgrounds
Decorated Christmas trees, wreaths and gift baskets will be sold in a silent auction, with all proceeds to go to nonprofits helping those in need in Grant County. Call Kailey Neal, 541-620-2569, for more information.

The museum will be decorated for Christmas and the store will be open for Christmas shopping. The cost is $3 for those 12 and older, and free for Friends of the Museum.

Light up a Life
6:30 p.m., Valley View Assisted Living, John Day
Candles will be lit in memory of those who have died, or special loved ones. The evening will include music and refreshments. Sponsored by Blue Mountain Hospice. For more information, call 541-575-1648.

All students, grades K-6, will present traditional Christmas carols in Here We Come ACaroling, a program designed by Melinda Mitchek.

Festival of Children
10 a.m.-2 p.m., Trowbridge Pavilion, Grant County Fairgrounds
There will be a silent auction, with all proceeds going to the Tree of Giving, for people in John Day and Prairie City, and the Grant County Food Bank. Childrens activities include photos with Santa, ornament making, cookie decorating, bird feeders, nature crafts, Christmas gift making and a coloring contest. Sandwiches and punch will be provided. Mt. Vernon Fire fund-raiser and bazaar
9 a.m.-4 p.m., Mt. Vernon Community Center
The Mt. Vernon Fire Department welcomes baked goodies to sell at the bazaar. The department will serve up a soup lunch for $5. Bring in a can of food for a free raffle ticket limited to five items. Timber Truckers Light Parade
