PRAIRIE CITY The Strawberry Village apartments in Prairie City are getting a makeover, and the cast-off appliances and other goods could benefit the community.
A variety of appliances, fixtures, windows, doors and other goods being replaced in all the units are now for sale, on a first-come, first-served, with the proceeds going to the Prairie City Community Center remodel plans.
The items are all used, but in good condition.
The list includes coin-operated washers and dryers, refrigerators, stoves, bathroom vanities with sinks, mirrors, lighting, toilets, aluminum windows in several sizes, interior and exterior doors, kitchen units with sinks and cabinets, bypass doors, handrails and brackets, and other cabinets.
WC Construction of Elgin, in charge of the renovations and upgrades, offered the appliances to the Prairie City Community Association for fund-raising efforts. The group is trying to remodel the former United Methodist Church in Prairie City into a community center.
The renovations at Strawberry Village include exterior work too new siding, landscaping, locks and parking lot asphalt.
Nick Jones of WC Construction, who is overseeing the project, said that the work should be completed by mid-November.
