Event 'huge success'

MT. VERNON – When Kenny Delano put a duck in the water at Holliday Park pond, little did he know he would be $500 richer later in the day.

Delano was one of many winners at the Cinnabar Mountain Rendezvous last weekend, a weekend of fun resurrected after a 15-year hiatus.

“It was a huge success, way better than we could’ve imagined,” said Brad Cates, who, with a spirited committee, organized the many activities.

“We’ve been talking about it for a long time and got serious about reviving it last summer. We decided to make it happen,” Cates said.

Historically, Mt. Vernon School holds a reunion every five years. Coinciding with the reunion this year gave the event an even better turnout.

In addition to Delano, other Duck Race winners were: Chet Rule, $300; Travis Harper, $200; Dale Channey, knife; Brenda Coley, fish reel; and Mike Strong, gift card for a case of oil. $20 gift cards were received by Lyn Osborn, Barb Palmer, Drew Harmer and Cheri Rasmussen.

“Hard luck duck” winner, Steve Horn, also received a prize, a $25 gift card.

Winner of the 300 Remington Ultra Mag, raffled for the event and donated by True Value Hardware, was Paul Story.

In the Tug-of-War, Ferguson Engineering won first place, a prize of $400, plus their entry fees.

Winning $25 plus entries were Lindy Temple in the Women’s Skillet Throw, Eva Dougharity won the Women’s Ax Throw, Seth McKern for the Men’s Ax Throw. The team of Toby Thomas and Justin Bartlett won first in the Horseshoe Tournament, capturing a prize of $75. Keith Hutchingson and Seth McKern were second, receiving $50, and Sterling and Heath Horn were third, winning $30.

Davey Blood and Tracey Watson won $200 for the Golden Horseshoe find. And the four-woman team of Lucinda Harper, Leora Hancock, Christa Brown and Lindsey Webb won the Scavenger Hunt, with a prize of $150.
