Local students win with words

JOHN DAY – Students competed in the county-wide spelling bee May 11 at the John Day Elks Lodge.
The contest was open to homeschoolers as well as students in all Grant County schools.
Here’s a rundown of the winners by division:
? Primary (grades 1-3): 1st place – Emma Pulleiro; 2nd place (three-way tie) – Chloe Bentz, Kaitlyn Curtis and Raven Maloy.
? Division 1 (grades 4-5): 1st place – Hailey Carter; 2nd place – Jessica Carter; 3rd place – Makenna Adair.
? Division 2 (grades 6-8): 1st place – Treiquella Osborne; 2nd place – Daniel Bentz; 3rd place -Hannah Pereira.
? Division 3 (grades 9-12): 1st place – Samantha Greif; 2nd place – Stephen Binger; 3rd place – Shyanne Winters.
