Evelyn Jean Haberly, 69, died Sept. 22, 2010, at her home in John Day. A memorial service was held Oct. 1 at Living Word Christian Center in Mt. Vernon, followed by a dinner at the Senior Center in John Day.
Mrs. Haberly was born April 4, 1941, in Walla Walla, Wash., to James and Edith Nash. She moved to Dayville in 1945 and later to John Day, where she graduated from Grant Union High School.
On Aug. 28, 1960, she married Byron Haberly. From 1970-2008 she worked as the bookkeeper for Byron’s Auto & Excavating.
She was actively involved in her church and family. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and embroidery, but mostly loved serving and being around people.
Survivors include her husband, Byron Haberly; mother, Edith Gooding; son, Gregg (Kristie) Haberly; daughter, Lisa Schreiber of John Day; grandchildren, Ashley Schreiber, Seth Schreiber, Dolly Schreiber, Gracie Schreiber, Asya Hensley, Andrew Hensley, Amber Hensley, Jeffrey Hensley, Alex Taylor, Isabella Schuettes, Sydney Schuettes, Mandy Taylor, Adam Taylor, Dennis Lippert and Dustin Lippert.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Harold Gooding; and twin sons in 1962.
