JOHN DAY Bed and breakfasts and inns across the United States will provide free rooms to active and retired military personnel, on Wednesday, Nov. 10 in observance of Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

Sonshine Bed and Breakfast in John Day is among those participating in the program.

We just want to say thank you to the courageous men and women from our armed forces, said Carolyn Stout, owner of Sonshine Bed and Breakfast.

Stout, whose father served in the Korean War and lost a brother in Vietnam, has made both rooms at Sonshine available for veterans.

The program was started in 2009 by the West Virginia B&B Association, and this year expanded to include 48 states, four international locations and over 800 inns.

Participating B&Bs are making at least one room available on the night of Wednesday, Nov. 10, to active and retired military personnel., with valid ID and reservations.

These are some trying times for anyone serving or who has served and a good nights rest is our way to say thank you, Stout said.
