JOHN DAY – People attending this year’s Grant County Community Artists exhibition found it well worth the short jaunt up Airport Hill.

Work from 34 artists was on display March 6-7 at the Grant County Regional Airport in John Day.

Five authors also had their books at the show.

Artists could bring up to four works of art, and the mediums – oil, acrylic, gouache, color pencil, pastel, watercolor, sculpture, photography, and more – were as wide-ranging as the styles.

Mary Snyder, the Grant County Art Association president who also had a few paintings on display, was impressed with the caliber of artistry on show.

“I see the ones who participate year after year and how they’ve improved, and some of them are really amazing,” she said.

A loose-knit group of artists, including Patricia Ross, plan the event, which started in 2008.

“I thought it was a huge success,” Ross said. “Each year we discover ways to improve. We hope to get more people involved. It was really good, and I want to thank all the artists and authors who participated.”

Ross, who showed some of her work, said the airport was a beautiful setting for the event.

Anyone who would like to join the art group’s meetings is welcome, she said. The artists hope to schedule an outdoor show this summer.
