JOHN DAY – Anyone looking for Sherry Craig-Miller, her hair salon or catering services, need search no longer. She’s still around – with a new business name and location.
Formerly known around Grant County as Shcarol’s of Fox, Craig-Miller and her husband David Pasko, are now operating from their new hillside home overlooking John Day.
The name reflects the locale: Cliff House Enterprises.
Craig-Miller lived in Fox for about 15 years. Prior to that, she lived in the Albany area. She and Pasko have been married for nearly eight years.
With over 40 years of hairstyling under her scissors, Craig-Miller has won many awards and honors and was also state president for the Oregon Hairdressers Association in the 1980s. She says that many of her clients have followed her from the Fox area, since they come into John Day anyhow.
She still heads over to Albany every five weeks too, to cater to faithful clients she has maintained there over the years.
Craig-Miller provides all typical salon services: cuts, perms, styles, etc. for men, women and children. Some of the products to which she holds true are Paul Mitchell, Back to Basics, Bain de Terre and a new one, Altieri Brothers. She also carries Blue Mountain Herbs, locally made in Long Creek.
Her catering business started about six years ago, at the advice of friends, according to Craig-Miller. She said she had often been helping out at weddings and has always enjoyed cooking.
The couple bought a catering wagon, which seemed easier than building on a special room, and more convenient too, from their fairly remote home base of Fox at that time.
The Shcarol’s name came from a combination of Craig-Miller’s and her friend and business partner, Carolyn Elliott, of John Day.
Her catering business has been very busy over the years, working events like SolWest and the Oregon Hunters Association Banquet, as well as weddings and parties. She catered a wedding in Prineville last summer and has another this August.
One thing she said she’d like to do more of is catering for corporate meetings. Craig-Miller also plans to open a bed and breakfast in their new home.
“I just love cooking for people,” she said.
The couple moved into their new house at the start of December. After some remodeling to make way for the salon, Craig-Miller was sidelined by surgery but the businesses were up and running again in mid-March.
She said it was her Long Creek friend and frequent helper, Sue Drake, who came up with the new name for the business, when she asked, “When are you moving into the cliff house?”
