Hunter education class forming

CANYON CITY — The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will host a hunter education class in Grant County this month. The training is required for hunters under 18.

The class will meet in the Canyon City Community Hall, 129 S. Washington St., from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays starting July 10 and concluding July 20, with a field day and live fire session on July 22.

The cost for the class is $10.

Registration is limited to 25 students. This is the last in-person hunter education class before the start of hunting season this year.

To register, log into your ODFW account (or your child’s account, if registering a minor) or come to the ODFW John Day Field Office, 305 N. Canyon City Blvd. in Canyon City.

Local student earns OSU honor

CORVALLIS — Jesaka R. Culley of John Day has been named to the Oregon State University honor roll for spring term, the university announced.

The distinction is reserved for students who maintain a B-plus (3.5) grade point average for at least six hours of graded coursework.

Culley is a junior majoring in fish, wildlife and conservation science.
