PRAIRIE CITY – The Shoshoni Winds Restaurant in Prairie City features an outstanding display of wildlife mounts and also includes realistic wildlife artwork by artist Tom Schillinger. Recently, the display has expanded to a storefront a couple doors west of Shoshoni Wind, at 134 Front St.

Since 1995, Schillinger has teamed with David Morris, author of the Big Game Record Books. They attended clinics together to become certified to measure record animals and attend shows throughout the region. Schillinger illustrated the Big Game Books, and also developed the logos for Shoshoni Winds, where he is assistant manager.

Schillinger’s mother was a watercolor artist and his own style developed in high school as he graduated to acrylics. Today most of his work is with acrylics, but he also incorporates pen and ink and pencil sketches, sometimes seen on the matting and framing of his impressive artwork. He’s also is dabbling with prints on canvas, “giclee,” which in French means “sprayed dots.” He enjoys landscape photography that is sometimes used as reference for backgrounds in his works.

Schillinger has a studio at his home in Hines. His artwork is on display and for sale at various locations including French Glen and the Broadway Deli in Burns. Shoshoni Winds showcases Schillinger’s impressive works – originals and prints.

For more, Schillinger can be reached at his studio (541) 573-6398 or at Shoshoni Winds (541) 820-4544.
