Bull Prairie Lake Campground is a forested, outdoor getaway in northwest Grant County.

Anglers, campers and those just looking for a cool, serene spot to picnic will enjoy this gem, located in the pines of the Umatilla National Forest.

Comparable to Magone Lake in the Malheur National Forest, the 28-acre Bull Prairie Lake is stocked annually with rainbow and brook trout.

Nonmotorized boats are allowed, with docks for easy access.

A family-friendly 1.2-mile hiking trail circles the lake, including bridges and benches along the way.

Several small paths — paved and gravel — lead to the trail from picnicking and camping areas.

There are 30 camping spots with gravel parking and 16 day-use areas.

Potable water is available. There are eight vault toilets.

The campground is located near the Morrow-Grant County OHV Park.

While off-highway vehicles are not allowed at Bull Prairie, there are spots to park near the bathrooms and a dock.

For RVs, there are no hookups, but there is a dump site available.

Fees are $14 a night for a single site, $19 a night for a double site and $28 per night for a group site.

An additional $5 is charged for each extra vehicle after the two allowed per site.

Directions: From Kimberly in northwestern Grant County, take Highway 19 east toward Spray. After about 9 miles, turn north on Highway 207 toward Hardman and Heppner. At about 12.5 miles, turn east on paved Forest Road 2039 — there’s a clearly marked sign for Bull Prairie Lake — about 2.5 miles to the lake and campground.
