Romance: Couple celebrates 50 years

James and Gloria (Williams) Whale will mark their 50th wedding anniversary with a celebration at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at Clyde Holliday State Park.

The Whales were married July 12, 1958 in Winnemucca, Nev. They have lived their entire married lives in Grant County, where James drove a truck, retiring in 1994, and Gloria worked as a store clerk, retiring a year later, in 1995.

They enjoy traveling and camping, and attend Cornerstone Christian Fellowship Church in John Day.

The couple have a son, Michael of Baker City; a daughter, Shelly Whale Murphy, who lives in John Day with her husband Mike; and two grandchildren, Amanda and Shane Murphy.
