CANYON CITY — With the return of more moderate temperatures and a reduction in wildfire smoke levels, two of the five cooling centers set up around Grant County are standing down while three others continue to operate.
The John Day and Monument senior centers are no longer operating as emergency refuges for the public to cool down and breathe filtered air, according to Grant County Emergency Management Coordinator Eric Bush.
However, those services are still being provided at two locations equipped with air conditioning and air scrubbers.
The Grant County Library, at 507 S. canyon Blvd. in John Day, is open from 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and the Dayville Community Hall, on Highway 26 in Dayville, remains open to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Prairie City Public Works and Information Center, 133 SW Bridge St., does not have air conditioning but is equipped with an air scrubber. It’s available as a clean air center from noon-7 p.m. Monday-Friday.
