JOHN DAY — Warm greetings friends. Loved the nice weather last week. It was good to see people out tending to yards.

Carolyn Stout

Meals coming up are sausage burgers, hash browns, salad and fruit on Monday. Thursday you can enjoy a hot turkey sandwich, mashed potatoes and veggies. Tammy will have some of her GOOD cranberry sauce and a dessert.

The senior center will be having a public donation event on Saturday, April 5. Items include a variety of mobility- and safety-related devices, an abundance of new, in original packaging, disposable undergarments. Let friends and neighbors know who might be interested in the event — it will help get the word out.

Next puzzle part: Food preparation. I met the kitchen at nine years old. Dad taught me potato peeling. Then it was 4-H, cooking for seven, catering and 22  years of BnB. Caused me good feelings to bless others with food.

Remember, senior center bingo fun 1 p.m. every Tuesday.

MONUMENT — Are ya getting excited that spring is almost here? I’m still not very thrilled about the time change, but I am looking forward to warmer and sunnier days. We had some really nice, sunny days a bit ago and it sure was nice! I think even the animals loved it. We like that sunshine and get our vitamin D. God created the sun for life on this earth. Everything needs to eat green food. I don’t understand why everyone thinks that carbon dioxide is so bad (aka carbon footprint) because when I went to school ( I almost majored in biology in college), we learned that we produce the carbon dioxide that the plants and trees needed and they in turn created oxygen for us. So in my humble opinion, why don’t we just plant more trees and plants? Hmm, something to chew on, I guess.

Our greeters at the table were Bob Cockrell and Sue Cavender. They checked in all the guests, collected and counted up the money. Jan Ensign filled in the paperwork. Ellie Lucas led us in the flag salute and made the announcements. Yours truly prayed the blessing over the meal. Rusty Baughman was the winner of the free meal ticket.

Our cooks, Terry Cade and Carrie Jewell, made us some pulled pork sandwiches, coleslaw, french fries, and cake for our dessert. We thank them for always taking care of us so well. We appreciate them very much.
There is a nice eatery near Twickenham, called Tim Buck II. They have an AirBnB and a nice restaurant that serves old-fashioned food made fresh. For more information, you may go to TimbuckIIretreat.com. It’s nice to have options when looking to go out for a nice meal with your spouse or family.

Our next sewing time will be Wednesday, April 9. That will actually be a special sewing day. There is going to be a lady coming in to teach a class on painting a barn quilt on a wooden board. The class may still have a couple of openings left and you can call Judy Harris at 541-934-2244 if you would like to participate. Everyone else can still come and work on their other sewing projects, knitting or crocheting. You can just plain come on over to just sit and visit, too! We share a potluck lunch at noon. The time for the sewing is from 9 a.m. to about 2 p.m.

I’m trying to psych myself up to prepare for the upcoming event of baby goats. I am excited at the same time as being a little apprehensive. My life will revolve around baby goats for awhile and I won’t be able to go anywhere! LOL. I think Belle may be the only one not preggers. My bottle babies from two years ago are going to be first-time mamas. That is going to be a little nerve-wracking. Well, we will put everything into the Lord’s hands for He is good, all the time.

Isaiah 12:2 Behold, God is my salvation. I will trust, and not be afraid, for the LORD Jehovah is my strength and my song. He is also become my salvation.

PRAIRIE CITY — Yep. It’s spring in Grant County. Last week had a comfort zone that was conducive to working in the yard. This week chance of snow showers. Are you getting antsy to start spring cleaning? I have noticed a few cobwebs that need to be addressed … and apparently the box elder bugs have hatched. And found their way into the house!

Tom had his second leaf of the 4-leaf clover for St. Patrick’s Day filled with some more information. Remember, Patrick was captured at age 16. At the age of 22, he managed to escape and return to England. And what did he do then? Went to school so he could go back to Ireland and teach them the Truth. Do you know of anybody else that would do such a thing? Good example for us.

Gail Kolb led the flag salute; Fran Bunch won the free meal; and Pastor Dustin Phipps asked the blessing. Our volunteers included Sharon, Mary, Teresa, Tom, and Pam at the desk. Special volunteer Kathy Bishop was in the kitchen again subbing for Pam G. who was subbing for Pam W. Colin did the announcements as he was subbing for Debra who should have been subbing for Ginger. Get all that? It is nice to have people who are available when others have to be gone.
Pam W. is making good progress with her knee. Has upgraded from a walker to a crutch and gets to come have lunch with us.
Colin announced that the American Legion will be having its spring raffle of goodies from local businesses. Tickets will be available from him here next week. One of the prizes is worth $350! From Better Blooms! You can be sure I’m gonna get one of those tickets! Our meal was a warmup one for this blustery and rainy day: spaghetti in meat sauce with garlic bread, green salad, mixed fruit, cottage cheese, and apple pie with topping for dessert. There was so much I had to bring some home for supper. You can’t say you don’t get filled up here!
As I sat back to contemplate the next paragraph, I looked out the window and guess what was floating down from the sky? The expected snow showers … and the sun is shining. Bringing my eyes back to the task at hand, I notice the desk calendar. It has a picture titled “Butterfly Meadow.” All kinds of flowers with butterflies fluttering. Yes, spring is coming! Just hang on …
Finished the eight-volume set of books from the 1890s. Found some very interesting words, and here are a few: flagitious (shamefully wicked, vile, scandalous); sectaries (member of a sect, dissenter, nonconformist); pericope (to cut a passage, usually short, from a written work). For fun, put all three of those words in a sentence …
Zech. 10:1 Ask the LORD for rain in the springtime; it is the LORD Who makes the storm clouds. He gives showers of rain to men, and plants of the field to everyone. 2 The idols speak deceit, diviners see visions that lie; they tell dreams that are false, they give comfort in vain. Hosea 10:12 … it is time to seek the LORD, until He comes and showers righteousness on you.
