Evacuation advisories eased for Monument, Long Creek

MONUMENT — Evacuation advisories have been eased for the communities of Monument and Long Creek as firefighters make progress against wildfires in the area, the Grant County Emergency Management Office announced on Tuesday, July 30.

Evacuation notices are being rolled back for some other parts of the county as well.

The news marks just the second time since rapidly expanding wildfires forced evacuations in Grant County on  July 13 that emergency managers have announced a reduction in evacuation levels.

The following notices went into effect at 9:30 a.m. on July 30:

North Grant County

All areas previously at Level 2 east of Highway 395 and north of Highway 26 — including the community of Long Creek and a section west of Long Creek to County Road 9 — will drop to Level 1.

Fox Valley west of Highway 395 from County Road 9/County Road 26 south to County Road 28 will be reduced from a Level 3 to a Level 2.

The area south of Highway 402 west to Gilmore Creek and south to Courtrock Road, to include the town of Monument, is reduced from a Level 3 to a Level 2.

South Grant County

The area south of County Road 63/Izee-Paulina Highway to the Harney County line between South Fork Beaver Creek and Big Flat Road is reduced from Level 2 to Level 1.
